Immersion: Experiences and Opportunities in 2018

Immersive technologies are positively transforming human life, from social interaction to education and research. Digital innovations, ranging from augmented reality (AR) to mixed and virtual reality (VR), find applications in environmental communication and decision making, digital heritage, or the arts. This talk will provide an overview of current developments focusing on projects associated with the Strategic Plan Project: Digital Innovation through Immersive Technologies - Establishing New Paradigms for Environmental Decision Support.

Dr. Klippel is Professor of Geography at Penn State with a PhD in Computer Science and Mathematics from the University of Bremen, Germany. He is the Founder of ChoroPhronesis – Applied Spatial Intelligence, the current Gosnell Senior Faculty Scholar, and Associate in Penn State’s Cyber Science Institute as well as Affiliated with Information Science and Technology. Dr. Klippel worked in the School of Engineering at the University of Melbourne, and did a post doc at the University of California, Santa Barbara before joining Penn State. Dr. Klippel’s research interest are eclectic addressing aspects of how technology enables spatial thinking across the academic spectrum. He has been focusing on immersive technologies for several years as a transformative and paradigm changing technology for communication.
