Below is a personal note from ADRI Director, Bill Doan, regarding this decision:

Due to the uncertainty of the health crisis we currently face and the University’s decision to move classes online and cancel or postpone campus events until at least April 6, we have decided to postpone our Arts/Design and Health Summit. Our plan now is to create a series of events for the fall semester and hopefully even deepen our investigation of arts/design/health possibilities at Penn State. I regret being the bearer of this news, but we feel we must proceed responsibly and with caution.

I’ve been motivated by enthusiastic responses to our plans to date and look forward to proceeding when it is safe and reasonable to do so. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

Stay well,

William Doan, ADRI Director, professor of theatre, artist-in-residence in the College of Nursing, 2019-20 Penn State Laureate

Arts, Design, and Health: An Exploration Of What's Possible at Penn State

In honor of National Public Health Week (April 6-12, 2020) and World Health Day (Tuesday, April 7), the Arts & Design Research Incubator, in collaboration with the Hamer Center for Community Design, will host an Arts, Design, and Health Research Summit, April 7-16.

The 2020 Penn State Arts, Design, and Health Research Summit will assemble faculty, staff, students, and community members from across the Commonwealth to present, discuss, and create timely considerations regarding individual and public health, along with the many roles the arts and design play in contributing to health and well-being.

Through workshops, presentations, and discussions, we'll explore past and current research in the broad fields of arts, design, and health, and will share ways in which Penn State is applying artistic practice, design, and humanities-based inquiry to address contemporary matters in health and well-being.

The 2020 Penn State Arts, Design, and Health Research Summit is intended to contribute to broad discussions around arts, design, and health, assess the role Penn State currently plays in this arena, and identify steps we might take to further research and practice in this field.
