Remix and Data Analytics: Art, Media Design, and Postproduction

Presented by Eduardo Navas, Assistant Professor of New Media

Eduardo Navas will discuss his research on appropriation and remix in terms of postproduction aesthetics. He will go over the principles that made possible his recent book Art, Media Design and Postproduction: Open Guidelines for Appropriation and Remix (Routledge 2018).

Navas will evaluate the relation of remix and analytics by referencing selected guidelines from his book and reflect on the relation of quantitative and qualitative analysis in contemporary critical and creative production. He will also introduce a data visualization tool which he developed as an ADRI embedded researcher.

Navas’s methods and theories of data patterns of communication are designed to be relevant across disciplines. An emphasis of his research is to examine how particular information or content is recycled, repurposed and recombined, and how this leads to new forms of creativity and innovation.
